Rodanas Formation, Tabuenca area, Aragon, Spain (Devonian of Spain)

Where: Aragon, Spain (41.7° N, 1.6° W: paleocoordinates 32.5° S, 19.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Rodanas Formation, Frasnian (382.7 - 372.2 Ma)

• Base is younger than torley ostracode zone (above Lower asymmetricus conodont zone); top in the range of the volki and schmidti ostracode zones (middle of Upper gigas conodont zone).

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; bioturbated sandstone and shale

• see lithology
• "measures 425m and is dominated by very massive quartizites that were deposited as completely washed sands of fine to medium grain size. Some quartzite units have ferruginous crusts on their tops that must be due to emergence. Only exceptionally, indeterminable remains of brachiopods, crinoids and bryozoans occur. Bioturbation and [trace fossils] occur at the tops of arenaceous units, many of which are obviously stabilized grounds..." "fine shales" also mentioned.
