Chernaya Bay Horizon, platform facies, SW Novaya Zemlya (Devonian of Russian Federation)

Where: Arkhangel'skaya Oblast', Russian Federation (72.0° N, 52.0° E: paleocoordinates 6.0° N, 2.9° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• basin-level geographic resolution

When: Chernaya Bay Horizon Formation, Givetian (387.7 - 382.7 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; dolomitic limestone and shale

• Shallow carbonate platform.
• Lithologies read off of stratigraphic chart (fig. 2): dolomitized limestone; shale, calcarenite, layered limestones, bioherms and reefs; silty and sandy limestone. This time interval is represented by both carbonate platform and sediment-starved trough facies. Authors do not distinguish which lithologies are present in which facies.
