Pirro Nord, Pieri Collection. (Pleistocene of Italy)

Where: Foggia, Italy (41.8° N, 15.5° E: paleocoordinates 41.7° N, 15.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: Early/Lower Pleistocene (2.6 - 0.8 Ma)

• fissure fillings. Late Early Pleistocene, younger than the Tasso FU, but not Middle Pleistocene, probably Farneta FU - ?Jaramillo? This material was collected from Pirro Nord, but which fissure it came from is unknown.

Environment/lithology: fissure fill

• Karst infilling, with frequent occurrence of quartz grains - probably derived from the Apennines - indicating a palaeogeography similar to that of today.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
