Type specimen: KUVP 23488, a partial skeleton (carapace; plastron; skull lacking lower jaw; right stapes, posterior horn of hyoid; right forelimb and girdle lacking phalanges of digits IV and V; left forelim). Its type locality is Emarginachelys cretacea type locality, which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial sandstone in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana.
