FCi-1, Cross-Florida Barge Canal, Inglis (Eocene of the United States)

Where: Citrus County, Florida (29.0° N, 82.7° W: paleocoordinates 29.1° N, 75.1° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Ocala Limestone Formation, Priabonian (38.0 - 33.9 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Inglis Fm of the Ocala Group, which is overlain by the Williston Limestone, and overlies the Avon Park Limestone; originally proposed as Inglis Member of Moodys Branch Fm by Vernon (1951). Scott (1991) reduced the Ocala Group to formational status in accordance with the North American Stratigraphic Code, because the formations within it were biostratigraphic rather than lithostratigraphic. Inglis Member/Formation corresponds with the informal lower member of the Ocala. AGE: Priabonian; stage assignment based on Baum et al. 1994. Lower member of the Ocala Limestone may be Bartonian (Cotton et al., 2018). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Unknown position within formation.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; shelly/skeletal, white packstone

• Bryan (2005, 2008) described the Ocala Limestone’s lower member as having a shoal assemblage which was deposited in high-energy, nearshore waters; shallow subtidal facies on a restricted platform.
• White to cream-colored, granular fossiliferous limestone which is at least partially dolomitized.

Size class: mesofossils
