Taioma was named by Finlay and Marwick (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes-u T Dani Sepkoski's reference number: 899].

It was assigned to Taiomidae by Frassinetti and Covacevich (1999); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Fusininae by Stilwell et al. (2004).
