Ischyrhiza texana was named by Cappetta and Case (1975). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kiest Boulevard (KIB), which is in a Turonian marine siliciclastic in Texas.
It was recombined as Kiestus texanus by Cappetta and Case (1999); it was recombined as Kiestus texana by Suárez and Cappetta (2004).
