Polysternon provinciale

Taxonomy
Pleurosternon provinciale was named by Matheron (1869). Its type specimen is MHNM 1982-853, a partial shell (anterior portion of carapace), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grande Mène lignite seam, Fuveau, which is in a Campanian terrestrial lignite in France.

It was recombined as Polysternon provinciale by Tong and Gaffney (2000), Gaffney et al. (2006) and Rabi et al. (2012).

Synonyms
  • Elochelys major was named by Nopsca (1931). Its type specimen is MHNM1982-857, a partial shell (internal cast showing the plastron with pubic and ischiac scars), and it is a cast. Its type locality is Valdonne lignite mine, Fuveau, which is in a Campanian terrestrial lignite in France.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Polysternon provinciale by Gaffney et al. (2006).
