Phyllozoon hanseni was named by Jenkins and Gehling (1978). Its type specimen is P19508A and is an impression. Its type locality is Devil's Peak, N. Territory, - Jenkins and Gehling 1977, which is in an Ediacaran marine sandstone in Australia. It is the type species of Phyllozoon.
