Taxonomy
Metaphiomys beadnelli was named by Osborn (1908). Its type specimen is AMNH 13273, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry I (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian fluvial sandstone/mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt. It is the type species of Metaphiomys.
