Taxonomy
Proteusites fergusoni was named by Bucher (1992). Its type specimen is USNM 48271 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wildhorse Mine M2314, New Range Pass, which is in a Pelsonian marine horizon in Nevada.
