Fieldaspis was named by Rasetti (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Tojo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 80].

It was assigned to Corynexochida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Zacanthoididae by Palmer and Halley (1979), Jell and Adrain (2002) and Sundberg and McCollum (2003).
