Miraspis was named by Richter and Richter (1917).

It was assigned to Miraspidinae by Bruton (1966), Bruton (1967), Owen and Bruton (1980) and Owen (1981); to Odontopleurida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Odontopleuridae by Whittington (1956) and Jell and Adrain (2002).
