Pemphix was named by Von Meyer (1840) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-l Tr Anis-m Sepkoski's reference number: 674]. It is not extant. Its type is Palinurus suerii. It is the type genus of Pemphicidae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pemphicidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2015) and Smith et al. (2022).
