Protadelphe aenea was named by Krombein (1986). Its type specimen is No. 6473, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber (Museum Ziemi collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.
