Thaumastotherium osborni was named by Forster-Cooper (1913) [type specimen number name and repository not given]. It is extant. Its type locality is Bugti Hills (Forster-Cooper collection), which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in Pakistan. It is the type species of Baluchitherium, Thaumastotherium.
It was recombined as Baluchitherium osborni by Forster-Cooper (1913).
