Taxonomy
Teleosaurus hastifer was named by Eudes-Deslongchamps (1868). Its type specimen is LOST specimen, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Metriorhynchus hastifer by Swinton (1934), Young et al. (2010), Bronzati et al. (2012), Young et al. (2013) and Parrilla-Bel and Canudo (2015).
