Taxonomy
Simosthenurus maddocki was named by Wells and Murray (1979). Its type specimen is SAM P16999, a partial skull (near-complete cranium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Victoria Fossil Cave, Main Fossil Chamber, which is in a Pleistocene cave siltstone in Australia.
