Pseudozonaria praeaequinoctialis was named by Landau and Groves (2011). Its type specimen is NHMW 2010/0036/0019, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cantaure Formation (unspecified localities), which is in a Burdigalian transition zone/lower shoreface siliciclastic in the Cantaure Formation of Venezuela.
