Taxonomy
Aneurophyton was named by Kraeusel and Weyland (1923). Its type is Aneurophyton germanicum.

It was assigned to Progymnospermopsida by Andrews (1970); to Aneurophytaceae by Doweld (2001); and to Aneurophytales by Taylor et al. (2009).
