Archaeosigillaria was named by Kidston (1901). It is not extant. Its type is Sigillaria vanuxemi.
It was assigned to Sigillariaceae by Andrews (1970); to Lycopsida by Chandra and Tewari (1991); and to Lycopodiophyta by Taylor et al. (2009).
