Dusicyon avus was named by Burmeister (1866).

Synonyms
  • Canis platensis was named by Mercerat (1891).

    It was replaced with Canis palaeoplatensis by Ameghino (1891); it was synonymized subjectively with Dusicyon avus by Berman (1986).
