Taxonomy
Leptolepis koonwarri was named by Waldman (1971). Its type specimen is MUGD 3649, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Koonwarra fish-bed, which is in a Cretaceous fluvial mudstone/claystone in Australia.
