Opisthodontosaurus carrolli

Taxonomy
Opisthodontosaurus carrolli was named by Reisz et al. (2015). Its type specimen is OMNH 77469, a partial skull (partial skull and mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Richards Spur, which is in an Artinskian fissure fill claystone/conglomerate in Oklahoma. It is the type species of Opisthodontosaurus.

Reisz et al. 2015"Small captorhinid eureptile characterized by the following autapomorphies: maxillary and dentary tooth bases are circular and bulbous, three enlarged teeth present on the maxilla, one in the anterior and two in the posterior region; largest dentary tooth is present along the posterior half of the bone; and number of teeth fewer than ten on the maxilla and fewer than 14 on the dentary. The dentary is characterized by the presence of a large well-developed coronoid process and deep lateral excavation in the posterior one quarter of the bone. Prearticular with a large, hooked pterygoideus process."
