Anostylostroma was named by Parks (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Fame-u Sepkoski's reference number: 363]. It is the type genus of Anostylostromatidae.
It was assigned to Tienodictyidae by Stearn et al. (1999); to Stromatoporoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Anostylostromatidae by Nestor (2015).
