Cyclophorus was named by Montfort (1810). It is extant. It is the type genus of Cyclophoridae, Cyclophorinae.

It was assigned to Cyclophoridae by Conrad et al. (2013); and to Cyclophorinae by Raheem and Schneider (2017).
