Taxonomy
Choia was named by Walcott (1920) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u O Trem Sepkoski's reference number: 883,1019,1066]. It is the type genus of Choiidae.
It was assigned to Choiidae by Finks et al. (2004); to Demospongia by Briggs et al. (1994), Sepkoski (2002) and Bambach et al. (2007); and to Protomonaxonida by Rigby et al. (2010).
