Taxonomy
Proetus canaliculatus was named by Hall (1861). Its type specimen is AMNH 4253 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Dechenella (Basidechenella) canaliculata by Stumm (1953); it was recombined as Basidechenella canaliculata by Lieberman (1994).
