Twenhofelella was named by Rigby (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u D Gedi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 220,1123]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pelicaspongiidae by Rigby et al. (1979); and to Amphidiscosa by Sepkoski (2002).
