Carlomonnius quasigobius

Taxonomy
Carlomonnius quasigobius was named by Bannikov and Carnevale (2016). Its type specimen is MCSNV IGVR71187, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Monte Bolca (Canossa collection), which is in a Ypresian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in Italy. It is the type species of Carlomonnius.

Carnevale 2016A diminutive gobioid fish with body moderately elongate and caudal peduncle relatively elongate; head relatively large; jaws with pointed and slightly recurved conical teeth; five branchiostegal rays; vertebral column containing 24 (10+14) vertebrae; haemal spine of the se- cond preural centrum autogenous; dorsal pterygiophore formula 2-3111; dorsal fin notched and continuous, with seven slender flexible spines and 11 rays; short-based anal fin with a single spine and 7 rays; three anterior anal-fin pterygiophores inserted anterior to first haemal spine; pelvic fin with a single spine and four segmented rays; pelvic fins anterior to pectorals; ventral postcleithrum present; caudal fin rounded with 13 (7+6) principal rays; body covered with thin cycloid scales.
