Taxonomy
Microtheriomys brevirhinus was named by Korth and Samuels (2015). Its type specimen is JODA 16037, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is JDNM-8 Sheep Rock, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial claystone in the John Day Formation of Oregon.
