Taxonomy
Quercophyllum platanoides was named by MacGinitie (1941). Its type specimen is Calif. Acad. Sci. Paleo. Type Coll. cotypes nos. 7778, 7779. Its type locality is UCMP loc. P3347, Sailor Flat, which is in an Eocene floodplain shale in California.
