Arthrostylidae was named by Ulrich (1882). Its type is Arthrostylus.
It was assigned to Rhabdomesoidae by Astrova and Morozova (1956); to Cryptostomata by Bassler (1911), Bassler (1953) and Ross (1963); and to Rhabdomesina by Lobdell (1992), Sakagami (1998), Jiménez-Sánchez (2009) and Ernst et al. (2015).
It was assigned to Rhabdomesoidae by Astrova and Morozova (1956); to Cryptostomata by Bassler (1911), Bassler (1953) and Ross (1963); and to Rhabdomesina by Lobdell (1992), Sakagami (1998), Jiménez-Sánchez (2009) and Ernst et al. (2015).
