Taxonomy
Muscardinus pliocaenicus austriacus was named by Bachmayer and Wilson (1970). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NHMW 1970/1300 mandible dext with p4-m1.
It was recombined as Muscardinus austriacus by Bachmayer and Wilson (1980); it was synonymized subjectively with Muscardinus pliocaenicus pliocaenicus by Daxner-Höck and de Bruijn (1981).
