U.S.G.S 19780-PC (Permian of the United States)

Also known as U.S.G.S collection 19780-PC, Yeso Fm., New Mexico

Where: Dona Ana County, New Mexico (33.0° N, 106.6° W: paleocoordinates 4.8° N, 34.4° W)

When: Yeso Formation, Kungurian (279.3 - 272.3 Ma)

• Due to faulting and poor exposure, the thickness of the Yeso Fm. can not be measured. But, one exposure has been measured to 250 ft. thick. The Abo-Yeso contact is gradational.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; gypsiferous, gray, yellow, carbonaceous limestone and fine-grained sandstone

• The Yeso fm. includes gypsum, dolomite, limestone, shale, siltstone, and fine-grained sandstone. The gypsum and carbonates are gray and the shale, siltstone, and sandstone range for yellowish gray to salmon red. The dominant bed type is limestone and gypsum with thin beds of fine-grained sandstone.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: bulk,

• fossils collected from limestone beds in the NE(1/4)sec. 3, T 19 S., R. 3 E.
