UQ L5139, New England Highway (Permian of Australia)

Where: New South Wales, Australia (32.7° S, 151.3° E: paleocoordinates 68.0° S, 158.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Echinalosia robusta/hanloni brachiopod zone, Belford Formation, Wordian (266.9 - 264.3 Ma)

• Approximately 10 m below top of formation. Brachiopods suggests the Echinalosia robusta/hanloni zone, correlated with APP4.2 palynomorph zone (Briggs, 1998). The APP4.2 zone was constrained as late Wordian to mid-Wuchiapingian age by U-Pb dating in Laurie et al. (2016). The E. robusta zone is the basal part of APP4.2, so a Wordian age is assigned here.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified siltstone

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: mold/impression

Reposited in the UQ
