Loch Humphrey Burn Locality (Carboniferous to of the United Kingdom)

Where: Scotland, United Kingdom (55.9° N, 4.5° W: paleocoordinates 8.3° S, 1.9° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Tn 3-Pu/Tc zone, Hastarian to Hastarian (358.9 - 336.0 Ma)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: fluvial-lacustrine; lithified, volcaniclastic shale

• The whole sequence of beds reflects a number of environments including lake, floodplain and channel.
• 30 metres were trenched. Most of the sequence consists of waterlain volcanogenic sediments with subsidiary clastic adn organic sedimentary rocks. Black shale and limestone below are intrepreted as lake sediments. Toward the top alluvial sediments predominate, poorly laminated silts with abundan plant remains upward fining, erosionally based conglomerates are interpretted as channel sediments and finer, poorly laminated shales and silts with rootlets and coaly lenses are interpreted as flood basin swamp deposits.
