Kindle boulder #261, ZP Biofacies, Downes Point Mb, - Young and Ludvigsen 1989 (Cambrian of Canada)

Where: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada (49.3° N, 65.6° W: paleocoordinates 34.7° S, 73.1° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Ptychagnostus gibbus zone, Downes Point Member (Shallow Bay Formation), Solvan (510.2 - 504.5 Ma)

• Boulder #261 is from the Zacanthoidid-Pagetia Biofacies. While this monograph deals with the Kindle Zone 1, fauna of the Kindle Zones 2-5 can be found in Westrop et. al 1996. The Downes Point Member is about 100m thick and the general paleoenvironment is a shelf edge/upper slope environment which transported fossils as debris flows forming a deep water sediment apron..

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: slope; lithified grainstone and lithified packstone

• The Zacanthoidid-Pagetia biofacies has a lithology of light brown grainstone and packstone with abundant spar and rare lime mud.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: recrystallized

Collection methods: Not all boulders were assignable to a biofacies and only trilobites were described, however other taxa are not known to be omitted since there is no mention of them in the text. The trilobites described here are part of the C. H. Kindle Collection at the Geological Survey of Canada.
