Jackson de Figueiredo outcrop, Jaguariaiva County, Parana State, Brazil (Devonian of Brazil)

Where: Parana, Brazil (23.3° S, 49.7° W: paleocoordinates 74.5° S, 133.9° W)

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Furnas Formation, Early/Lower Devonian (419.2 - 393.3 Ma)

• Based on current biostratigraphic information, no more precise an age than Early Devonian can be established. Plants are found in the upper part of the formation.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal; lithified siltstone and lithified sandstone

• Transitional sub-aqueous lagoonal environment.
• The lagoonal deposits carrying the plant megafossil assemblage are represented by a lenticular package about 4 m thick characterized by alternating layers of silt and sandstone; these massive or with """"climbing ripples"""" which reflects pulses of turbidity. """"Remains are preserved as impressions in shaly beds, which alternate with sandstone turbiditic lenses, altogether interbedded within cross-stratified sandstones.
