US-62 south Hillsboro section, (0.5 m height, Lilley Fm.), Highland Co., Ohio (Silurian of the United States)

Where: Highland County, Ohio (39.2° N, 83.6° W: paleocoordinates 28.0° S, 51.2° W)

• coordinate stated in text

When: Kockelella ranuliformis - K. amsdeni zone, Lilley Formation, Sheinwoodian (433.4 - 430.5 Ma)

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; argillaceous dolomite

• "The basal Lilley is a massive crinoidal dolomite (skeletal packstone or grainstone) and displays herring-bone crossbedding [not on his strat. column]...Fossils are very abundant in the Lilley...The very argillaceous dolomite beds (wackestones) in the middle of the fm. are an exception...Although all the samples from that part of the Lilley are dolomitized, it is possible to determine that most of the Lilley deposits excluding the argillaceous dolomite were skeletal packstones. Skeletal grains are predominantly echinoderm (crinoid) debris although brachiopod and bryozoan fragments are also present...The conodont fauna...is characteristic of strongly agitated shallow water environments."
