Tuvaella rackovskii plana Community, Khutsin-Bulak sequence 11 (Silurian of Mongolia)
Where: The Mongolian Lake District, Mongolia (44.9° N, 95.4° E: paleocoordinates 38.1° N, 16.1° E)
• coordinate based on political unit
• basin-level geographic resolution
When: Wenlock (433.4 - 427.4 Ma)
Environment/lithology: coastal; lithified siltstone and lithified sandstone
• The lateral position of the Tuvaella plana Community bathymetrically is defined by its closeness to shoreline, in the zone of conglomerate and coarse sandstone accumulation, associated with interbedded terrigenous and subordinate carbonate-terrigenous sediment.
• Occurs in interbedded coarse sandstone, quartzose, poorly sorted sandsotne, fine to medium-grained siltstone, with very subordinate feldspathic, sandy, organogenis calcarenite with Tuvaella coquinas. In other places there are intercalated feldspathic sandstone and greenish-gray, poorly sorted, fine to medium-grained siltstone of the same composition with members up to 0.5 m thick, and gray, dense, quartzitic sandstone, lense-like interbeds (up to 0.3 m thick) of greenish Tuvaella coquinas, and gray, sandy, feldspathic, organogenic limestone.
Size class: macrofossils
