Eiberg section, sample 49 (Triassic of Austria)

Where: Austria (47.6° N, 12.2° E: paleocoordinates 31.1° N, 16.6° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Choristoceras marshi ammonoid zone, Eiberg Member (Kössen Formation), Rhaetian (208.5 - 201.3 Ma)

• Unit 2, Oberrhätkalk

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; lithified lime mudstone

• The lower and middle parts of the Eiberg Member (units 1–3) show a further deepening to about 50–100 m followed by a regressive tendency towards the top of the Kössen Formation (unit 4). In the upper part of unit 2 (samples 48–55) the sculptured Bairdiidae disappear and the carbonates are represented by micritic limestones with exclusively very fine biodetritus reflecting a further increase of water depth.

Size class: microfossils

Collection methods: acetic
