Where: Logan County, Kansas (38.9° N, 101.2° W: paleocoordinates 42.3° N, 67.7° W)

When: Scaphites hippocrepis ammonoid zone, Smoky Hill Chalk Member (Niobrara Formation), Late/Upper Santonian (85.8 - 83.5 Ma)

• It occurred approximately 2 m above Marker Unit 22 (Hattin, 1982) and about 4.2 m below the contact with the Pierre Shale. The chalk at this level is near the top of the biostratigraphic zone of Hesperornis (Stewart, 1990), within the Scaphites hippocrepis Ammonite Zone (Kauffman, et al., 1993), and is early Campanian in age (82 ma).
