Elkobatrachus type locality (Eocene of the United States)

Also known as CM locality 3692

Where: Elko County, Nevada (40.8° N, 115.7° W: paleocoordinates 44.1° N, 104.8° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Elko Formation, Early/Lower Uintan (46.2 - 39.7 Ma)

• "tentatively assigned to the Uintan Land Mammal Age" based on a zircon U-Pb date of 46.1 +/- 0.1 Ma for a tuff in the underlying lower member; a much younger U-Pb date of 38.9 +/- 0.3 Ma applies to the "topmost part" of the much higher upper member and is therefore not very relevant

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lacustrine deltaic; lithified, sandy limestone

• "a lacustrine, carbonate flat environment of relatively shallow depth, most likely less than 10 m" proximal to "a clastic point source along the lake margin" and within "a broad, low-lying area"
• "thin, decimeter-scale beds of sandy limestone near the base" of the informal middle member

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: adpression

Collected by S. R. Haynes; reposited in the CM
