Köveskal Borehole Kk-9, Sample 12 (Triassic of Hungary)

Where: Hungary (46.9° N, 17.6° E: paleocoordinates 0.3° N, 29.8° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Hidegkut Sandstone Member (Hidegkut Formation), Olenekian (251.2 - 247.2 Ma)

• Formation originally described as Lower Triassic. More precise stratigraphic position after Haas, Budai 1999: Triassic sequence stratigraphy of the Transdanubian Range, Hungary. Geologica Carpathica 50/6, 459–475.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: foreshore; bioturbated, red, silty marl and siltstone

• Shallow marine shelf, the bottom of if was frequently reached by stormwaves
• THe carbonate content of red clastics is low (<25 %). The red sand- and siltstones are parallely stratified, with uneven or nearly falt beding planes covered by mica grains. The alternatively stratification of lighter silty and darker clayey laminae or beds is characteristic.

Size class: microfossils

Collection methods: bulk,
