Silurian part of beds containing S-D boundary, Rauchkofel section, Woyaler facie (Silurian of Austria)
Where: Austria (46.7° N, 13.0° E: paleocoordinates 42.4° S, 52.8° E)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
When: eosteinhornensis zone, Pridoli (423.0 - 419.2 Ma)
Environment/lithology: marine; shelly/skeletal, black, gray limestone
• "Wolayer facies = micritic nodular limestones with reduced thicknesses of about 30 m due to stratigraphic gaps in the Lower Silurian." "Beds in which the S-D boundary occurs consist of grey or black platy crinoidal limestones with reare orthoceratids in the Silurian part of the succession, and of grey, well-bedded Flaserkalke with rare fossils int he Devonian part. Conodonts show, however, that the lilthologic change does not correspond with the boundary, which has to be drawn in the basal part of the Flaserkalke...Continuous sedimentation across the boundary is attested to by the presence of Scyphocrinites at the top of the black limestone facies and Novakia acuaria ten metres above the boundary level."
