Fauna s3da, Badenas Fmn., E. Iberian Chains (Silurian to of Spain)

Where: Spain (41.6° N, 0.9° W: paleocoordinates 66.5° S, 50.7° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: sandstone-3d Member (Badenas Formation), Wenlock to Wenlock (433.4 - 423.0 Ma)

• Author thinks basal Ludlovian age more likely.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; sandstone and sandy shale

• "...general composition is predominantly black fine shales (graptolites very rare), arenaceous shales, sandstones with a few shelly faunas, and some quartzites. Changing sand content distinguishes five members the two youngest of which are considered here. Sandstone member s3d [has] 45 m alternance of fine-grained sandstones and arenaceous shales [sandstones containing shelly faunas] [calcareous ssts in some cases have conodonts]."
