Gutturu Pala, Campo Pisano Fm, lower part of the succession (Cambrian of Italy)

Where: Iglesiente, Italy (39.4° N, 8.5° E: paleocoordinates 51.3° S, 112.0° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Campo Pisano Formation (Iglesias Group), Middle Cambrian (509.0 - 497.0 Ma)

• Late Early to Middle Cambrian

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal shelf; lithified wackestone and lithified mudstone

• Elicki (200 1) presented arguments for a deposition in a morphologically rather low diversified subtidal shelf environment. After that author, the nodular texture of the Campo Pisano Formation is a result of complex late diagenetic processes.
• Nodular limestones. Carbonate microfacies types of the Campo Pisano Formation are generally very rich in mud and include mostly wackestones, subordinately mudstones and floatstones.

Size class: mesofossils
