• Lower Devonian. Francovichia Zone occurs within the lower member of the Belén Formation at Belén and equivalent units at Cerro Kochis.

Environment/lithology: offshore; silty shale

• Silty in the lower two fifths, followed by a silty shale, a shale of greenish black colour, and the upper fifth becoming more sandy.
• The rocks are silty shales and contain abundant finegrained muscovite.
