•Based on mammal fauna, a Karpatian age was assigned to the Eibiswald Formation (Mottl, 1970), corresponding to MN6–MN5. However, Gruber et al. 2003 correlated the Eibiswald Formation to younger deposits of badenian age, which was corroborated by K-Ar dates of tuff samples in the coal horizon of the formation, suggesting a minimum depositional age of ~15.22Ma (Handler et al. 2006). The Badenian was redefined in Hohenbegger et al. 2014.
